Nana Olavuo’s Texas Wins the WNFC Championship in the United States

Anastasia Olavuo and the Texas Elite Spartans won the championship of the American football WNFC league on Sunday. The Spartans defeated the San Diego Rebellion in the final with a score of 34–14 (21–0). Olavuo is the first Finnish player to be part of a team that has won the prestigious American women’s WNFC league championship.

In her fourth season in the United States WNFC league, Anastasia Olavuo achieved her dream by winning the championship with the Texas Elite Spartans defense. The Finnish linebacker was present in the IX Cup final in Frisco, Texas on Sunday, when the Spartans decisively defeated the San Diego Rebellion with a score of 34-14.

Olavuo received plenty of playing time, especially in the second half of the game, and recorded impressive statistics, including a notable sack on the quarterback. After the match, the Finnish defender expressed her happiness about the victory and satisfaction with her performance.

The Texas Elite Spartans won all their matches this season and have now achieved their sixth WNFC championship.

Two Competing Leagues

WNFC (Women’s National Football Conference) is one of two major women’s American football leagues in the United States. The older and larger of the two is the WFA (Women’s Football Alliance), which has over 60 teams.

Among Finnish players, Janna-Jemina Seiles (2019, 2022), Tytti Kuusinen (2022, 2023), and Minna Lehtinen (2023) have all won the WFA’s highest league title, the Pro championship, while playing for the Boston Renegades team.

The Finnish Women’s Season Culminates in the EM Final at Home

The Finnish women’s national American football team will face Germany in the EM final on their home field in Myyrmäki, Vantaa, on Saturday, August 22, 2026. Finland aims to secure its third EM title in this match.

Olavuo is expected to join the national team training camp later in the summer.
