SAJL’s open flag football info on March 15th.
Flag football is rapidly growing worldwide as a non-contact version of American football. The International Federation of American Football (IFAF) and the professional league NFL in the United States are pushing to bring the sport to the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028, and the likelihood of this project succeeding is high.
In Finland, flag football was revived as a sport in 2021 after several years of silence, and it is now a key focus area for the American Football Association in Finland (SAJL) in the coming years. Our national teams participated in the 2021 World Championships and are currently preparing for the home World Championships to be held in Finland in the summer of 2024, which will be the largest sporting event in the history of the sport.
The visibility that flag football has received has already sparked new interest in Finland as well. SAJL has received inquiries about the opportunities for playing the sport, and due to the growing demand, we are organizing an open information session about flag football via Teams on March 15, 2023 at 6:00 pm.
The session is open to everyone, and no previous experience or background in the sport or clubs is required. In addition to potential players, we are also looking for people interested in other aspects of sports activities to participate in the sport. If you have considered forming your own flag football team, this session is worth attending.
