The Maple League will expand to eight teams for the 2025 season

The board of the American Football Association of Finland approved the league license applications of eight clubs at a meeting held late Monday evening.

In the 2025 season, the teams competing in the Maple League will include the Helsinki Roosters, Seinäjoki Crocodiles, Kuopio Steelers, Porvoo Butchers, Wasa Royals, and Helsinki Wolverines, along with new teams East City Giants from Helsinki and Tampere Saints. The last time the Maple League had an eight-team lineup was during the 2014 season.

Lohja Crusaders, who have competed in the Maple League for the past four seasons, will not continue at the top level, as the club did not meet the league license requirements. The East City Giants, who won the First Division championship in 2024, return to the Maple League for the first time since the 2001 season. Tampere Saints will also rejoin the top division after five seasons in the First Division.
