In the Women’s Maple League, four teams will be seen in the 2026 season: the Helsinki Wolverines, Turku Trojans, and Tampere Saints continue from last season, along with the Oulu Northern Lights making a return to the top league.

The board of the Finnish American Football Association confirmed the licenses for the Women’s Maple League for the 2026 season in their meeting on Monday. The league will condense from five to four teams, as Wasa Royals and Kuopio Steelers did not apply for a license for the upcoming season. The last time the Women’s Maple League was played with four teams was in the 2023 season, when the same four teams that will participate in 2026 competed for the championship.

The Finnish championship in women’s American football has been contested since 2008. The championship league was named the Women’s Maple League for the 2016 season, and the 2026 season will be the 19th in order.

The schedule for the 2026 season will be published in the early part of the year, once the teams’ field reservations are confirmed.
