Finland’s women’s flag football national team wins twice in Switzerland
The Finnish women’s flag football national team continued its strong match year by winning both the Moroccan and Swiss national teams over the weekend in Switzerland. In the Sunday matches, Finland defeated Morocco 33–0 and Switzerland 31–12. The victory over Switzerland was also a sweet revenge for the narrow loss in the bronze match of the Nations Cup in August.
The Finnish women’s flag football national team, preparing for the 2027 European Championship tournament, held a training camp over the weekend in Marin, located in the western part of Switzerland. On Saturday, the Finns practiced together with the Swiss national team, and on Sunday, the schedule included two international matches.
The national team’s coach Juuso Marno was satisfied with the weekend’s outcomes.
– The weekend was just as we hoped. Saturday’s practice with the Swiss national team was excellent, as both offense and defense faced foreign practice opponents, Marno says.
In the first match on Sunday, Finland clearly defeated Morocco 33–0. Finland’s defense completely dominated the game.
– In the Morocco match, the defense did not allow the opponent any new attempts, and the offense progressed according to the script, scoring the necessary points, Marno describes.
In the second match of the day, the host country Switzerland was the opponent. Finland ultimately won the contest 31–12, but according to the coach, the match was closer than the score suggests.
– In Sunday’s games, successes came on a broad front. Especially in the Switzerland game, we managed to turn critical downs to our advantage. The game was tighter than the scoreboard indicates, Marno assesses.

Revenge for the August bronze match
The encounters between Finland and Switzerland have recent history from August when the teams played twice in the Nations Cup held in the Czech Republic.
In the first encounter of the tournament, Finland was better with a score of 42–29, but in the bronze match, Switzerland narrowly took the victory 28–27. In Marin, the Finns were able to avenge that loss on the Swiss home turf.
Finland placed fourth in the Nations Cup, winning six out of the tournament’s nine matches. With the two victories over the weekend, the Finnish national team’s record for 2026 improved to eight wins and three losses.
Eyes on the 2027 European Championship tournament
The Finnish women’s national team’s 2026 season has provided plenty of international matches and valuable experience. The total of eleven matches offers a solid foundation for preparation for next year’s European Championship tournament.
Marno sees the team’s development positively, especially in that tight game situations are increasingly turning in Finland’s favor.
– The weekend can be summed up according to the successes of the matches: the increase in experience and shared successes are reflected in our ability to turn critical moments better than our opponents. There is still a lot of work to be done, but this is a good starting point for the important championship year, Marno concludes.
