Kuopio Steelers will not compete in the 2027 Maple League season
Kuopio Steelers announced on Sunday evening that the club will withdraw from the 2027 Maple League season. The Board of the Finnish American Football Association will review the clubs’ league licence applications at its meeting next week.
According to the Steelers Board, the future of the men’s first team will be reviewed in the near future as part of an overall assessment of the club’s operations and finances. Further announcements will be made once decisions have been reached.
”All other club activities will continue as normal. The club remains committed to stabilising the situation and securing a sustainable future for its operations.”
Kuopio Steelers have been one of the most successful teams in the Maple League over the past ten seasons. Between 2017 and 2026, the club won three Finnish championships, two silver medals and three bronze medals. With eight podium finishes, the Steelers have won more medals than any other team during this period.
The Steelers finished third in the 2026 Maple League season.
