Helsinki Roosters claim their 23rd Maple League championship
Helsinki Roosters claimed their 23rd Finnish American football championship by defeating Seinäjoki Crocodiles with a decisive 49-14 victory in the Maple League final, played on Sunday at Bolt Arena in Helsinki.
Roosters’ quarterback Ambro Urjansson, who threw five touchdowns in the game, was named the MVP. Urjansson joined the exclusive group of Finnish quarterbacks who have led their team to victory in the Maple Bowl. During the modern history of the Maple League, only Miro Kadmiry and Petrus Penkki had achieved this feat in a league dominated by American quarterbacks.
Roosters running back Ethan Greenfield was awarded as the game’s most outstanding player, while Johannes Jauhiainen received the Helsinki Trophy Club award.
This championship marked Roosters’ 23rd title in history. The team has now won more than half of the 45 championships contested. For Seinäjoki Crocodiles, this was their third consecutive loss in the final.
