Finland wins bronze medal, beats France 14-6

Team Finland finalized its medal hunt, which had already started in 2019 and was prolonged due to the Corona pandemic. Reigning European champion France fell after a great performance 14-6 (14-6).

The Finnish men continued their great series of European Championship medals by taking their fourth European Championship bronze medal and their 13th medal in the IFAF European Championship bronze medal game in Vantaa. Finland is still the most successful country in Europe ever with five american football championships, four silver and now also four bronze medals.

In Saturday’s bronze match, France was considered favorite being the reigning champion of Europe, but the strong start of the Finnish offence in the first half of the match produced a lead that France could not catch up with. A big thank you for the outcome of the game can be given to the Finnish defense, which kept the offence consisting of skilled individuals from France under control and forcing four turnovers.

Finnish QB Miro Kadmiry was named the MVP of the game.

Finland equalized the wins of the national matches played against France to 4-4. Saturday’s victory was the first to be taken from France in the 21st century. The European Championship bronze place means a somewhat easier program for Finland in the European championship series starting again in 2022. The next time the European Championship medals will be played is in 2023.
