The President of the Republic, Alexander Stubb, has awarded Roope Noronen the title of Sports Counselor on May 22, 2026. Noronen has served as the President of the Finnish American Football Association continuously for a quarter of a century.

Roope Noronen has made significant and long-term contributions to Finnish and international sports and athletics for over 30 years. He has been involved in various roles in sports as a player, coach, referee, team manager, and in leadership positions within organizations and international sports. His role has been particularly significant in the development of American football in Finland and Europe, as well as in promoting the growth, professionalization, and responsibility of the sport.

Since 2001, Noronen has served as the President of the Finnish American Football Association and in various leadership positions within international sports federations. He has also promoted ethical practices in sports, anti-doping efforts, and community-based sports culture.

The title of Sports Counselor is awarded in recognition of significant work in the field of sports and athletics. The title of Sports Counselor has been awarded since 1979. To date, a total of 154 Sports Counselor titles have been awarded in Finland.
